The SSWR Doctoral Student Travel Award Program is now accepting applications for the 2018 Annual Conference, January 10-January 14, 2018, in Washington, DC.  Applications are due Tuesday, October 24, 2017 (11:59 PM Eastern).

Program Purpose: The SSWR Doctoral Student Travel Award Program is designed to increase the diversity of doctoral student presenters from underrepresented groups by assisting in their ability to attend and present their work at the SSWR Annual Conference with a travel stipend and a complimentary conference registration.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must: 1) be currently enrolled doctoral students; 2) have received an abstract acceptance as a presenting author for the 2018 SSWR conference (abstract acceptance notices were emailed Friday, October 6). In the application, applicants must also identify as a member of a historically underrepresented racial/ethnic group, be a first-generation college student and/or identify as a member of a disadvantaged group. All eligible applicants must demonstrate a current and significant financial hardship or special circumstances that may adversely impact attendance at the 2018 SSWR conference. Awardees will be selected by the SSWR Research Capacity Development Committee (RCDC). Applicants may join or renew their 2018 SSWR membership prior to or at the same time as their travel award application is submitted.

Awards:  Up to ten travel stipends of $500 each will be distributed at the conference check-in. Stipends are intended to be used to defray costs associated with being a presenter at the 2018 Annual Conference (such as airfare, ground travel, hotel, meals, etc.). Conference registration will be covered for all recipients of the travel stipend. The RCDC will make a concerted effort to notify all applicants of award decisions via email by early November 2017.
