The Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) Doctoral Student Travel Award Program is now accepting applications for the 2017 Annual Conference, January 11 – January 15, 2017, in New Orleans, LA. Applications are due Wednesday, November 23, 2016 (11:59 PM Eastern).
Program Purpose: The SSWR Doctoral Student Travel Award Program is designed to assist students in their ability to attend the SSWR Annual Conference with a travel stipend and a complimentary conference registration. The awardees will be doctoral students who are underrepresented minority students or those from institutions historically underrepresented in the social work and/or biomedical research workforce.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants must be members of the following underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups: Black, African American, African; Spanish, Hispanic, Latino/a; Asian, Pacific Islander; American Indian, Native American; and others and those from institutions historically underrepresented in the social work and/or biomedical research workforce. Applicants will be selected by the SSWR Research Capacity Development Committee (RCDC) based on need and whether or not the applicant will be presenting at the 2017 Annual Conference. Eligible applicants must be members of SSWR for the 2017 membership year. Applicants may join or renew their 2017 SSWR membership [membership applications link] prior to or at the same time as their travel award application is submitted.
Awards: Travel stipends of $500 are to be used towards expenses associated with attending the 2017 Annual Conference (such as airfare, ground travel, hotel, meals, etc.). The RCDC will make a concerted effort to notify all applicants of award decisions via e-mail by December 13, 2016.
